After spending over 10 years using AOL mail, I was really reluctant to switch to Gmail even though I had dozens and dozens of friends say I should switch. I pondered the hassle and risk: All my contacts had my AOL address; all my subscriptions were under my AOL account and I just felt most comfortable using it. Well, After switching to Gmail about 5 years ago and going through the hassles of the switch, I couldn’t be happier. But I will admit it was a chore at the time.
Today, Gmail couldn’t be easier to switch to. There’s some great new features that make it possible for you to:
- Import all your mail from other accounts
- Import your e-mail addresses, contacts and connections
The Reasons Why
- Google handles and deletes spam better than anyone else. I’ve been amazed how well the spam doesn’t reach my inbox. Proof is in the pudding, and I have lots of proof! If only my work email address could do as good a job.
- Search your mail instantly – no waiting around. You can search within Gmail to find the exact message you want, no matter when it was sent or received. You don’t have to spend time sorting your email, just search for a message when you need it.
- Chat is Built In and it has AIM Chat Too! You can chat in Gmail with the people you already email or reply to emails by chat. You can even talk face to face with Gmail voice and video chat – although I’d rather not have people see me – I like the simple text chatting.
- It Works with Your Blackberry and iPhone. The days of needing your computer to get to your inbox are long gone. You can now use Gmail on your mobile device to access your email from anywhere.
- Tired of Outlook Quota Limits? All the Space You Will Need. Google is always working to increase the amount of free storage they offer in Gmail, and if you want even more, you can always purchase additional space. With all that space, you can archive instead of deleting messages, so they won’t clutter your inbox but will remain searchable in case you ever need them again.
- No Annoying Pop-Up Ads. With Gmail, you’ll never see pop-ups or untargeted banner ads. Instead they display text ads and related links you might find useful and interesting. Although I really don’t pay attention to them in my inbox.
